Description:
Not to be confused with the binary grid format by Esri, this one is a non-proprietary ASCII-based exchange format for raster images. "The file contents represents a single measure for each cell in a rectangular grid. Any coordinate system can be used to define the grid, including the widely used angular measurements with arc-seconds as units. Cells must be "square" in the chosen unit since cell size is defined by a single parameter." (LoC)
