Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS)

OASIS stands for the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, which was founded in 1993. Meanwhile OASIS has more than 5000 participants representing over 600 organizations and individual members in 100 countries.

It is a non-profit consortium working on developing and adopting open standards for the information society. The open standards mean, that the standards are publicly available and can be used freely by any company, organization, or any other technical community. By using the same standard in developing products, all kinds of data can be shared freely, with perfect fidelity and high degree of interoperability between different computer systems. Standards developed by OASIS include the fields of security, cloud computing, SOA, web services, smart grid, electronic publishing and emergency management, amongst others.
