The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is an independent, international, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, which represents the interests of library and information services and their users. It was founded in 1927 in Edinburgh. In the meantime, IFLA has over 1500 members in approximately 150 countries around the world in the fields of library and information services.
The objectives are developing and providing standards for library and information services, supporting and promoting the diffusion for the value of good library and information services, and finally representing the interests of IFLA members throughout the world.
The IFLA has working relationships to other standardization organizations such as ICSU, WIPO and ISO.
