Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA)

From 1990 to 2011 the Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA) was the premier not-for-profit association for individuals, businesses, associations, and standards organizations involved in language and language technology. One of the objectives of LISA was to develop and promulgate best translation and localization methods for software and hardware industries.

Since 2011, LISA is no longer active. Following the insolvency of LISA, developed standards have been put under Creative Commons license and the specifications moved to new work items within other standardisation organisations such as ISO, GALA, etc. However the standardization methods are still widely used today as a benchmark for assesing translation quality.

Specifications standardized by this body:
  1. Translation Memory eXchange
  2. Segmentation Rules eXchange
  3. TermBase eXchange
